Several Emergency Medicine Physician Assitant Positions available at our new state of the art facility at 15255 Max Leggett Parkway

JOB DUTIES

Scope of the Job

Performs diagnostic and therapeutic tasks (under the responsibility and supervision of the physician) as an extension of the ED physician to provide high quality care.  ED  Physician Assistants lead the flow of patient care in the Intermediate Care, Pediatric, and FlexCare units, and play a major role as patient advocate in the medical care system, serving as confidant, advisor and liaison between patients and physicians.  Individuals must demonstrate proven ability to work in a team environment, and must be able to work directly with both staff and patients in such a way as to instill confidence and facilitate communication.

Essential Functions

1. Proficient performance in FlexCare, Intermediate Care, and Pediatric ED units

2. Expertise in performance and documentation of ED-specific history, physical exam, procedures, differential diagnoses, ordering of ancillary studies, medical decision making, treatment and stabilization, and discharge plans for a wide variety of medical conditions and complaints.

3. Patient triage and treaching

4. Meet all required CME and licensure elements, as specified by NCCPA and Board of Medicine

5. Assist and teach residents and students when requested by the attending physician.

6. Actively seek ways to improve patient flow and satisfaction, as well as other needs or issues which would be beneficial to the Department as a whole.

7. Reports to the assigned attending physician(s) during each clinical shift.

Secondary Functions

Maintains flexibility regarding work schedule and acknowledges that night time work hours may be required   Temperament  Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations  Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility  Required to make independent judgments without supervision  Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria  Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure  Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Skills

Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medications, delivering physical care following treatment plan

Knowledge of how to assess patient health and measure/ record physiologic and growth indices

Knowledge of health promotion principles and techniques and patient learning measurements

Ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of a dependent medical practitioner

Ability to develop health education programs and materials

Ability to work collaboratively with all members of health care team

Experience

Graduate of AAPA approved Physician Assistant training program

Education and Certifications

National Certification by the NCCPA Licensed to practice in the state of Florida

Prescribing license in the state of Florida

BCLS certified

Must meet the hospital credentialing requirements
